Earl Sweatshirt-Molliwopped

Here’s some old, old Earl from before his self-titled mixtape and even before he joined Odd Future. This was posted months ago on Odd Future’s blog but hasn’t really gotten much love. Earl was going by Sly Tendencies at the time.
Straight Earl flow and the beat is pretty nice. The lyrics are a lot less radical than we would expect but do note it was before he was part of the OF movement. This may be one of my top five favorite Earl songs and definitely could have been put on his mixtape.

Earl Sweatshirt In The New Yorker

My dad, as a White, Anglo-Saxon, Protestant liberal (oxymoron) subscribes to The New Yorker. He sent me an article today about some group of “radical rappers” from LA named “Odd Figure.” I had a laugh and read the article, it’s about Earl Sweatshirt and how some writer when on a journey to communicate with him and the family about his whereabouts the past year. The article is ridiculously well-written and incredibly informative. It draws new perspective on Odd Future and what they stand for. It won’t be free online until next week (My dad is a subscriber), and I’ll be sure to post it then, but here is an article from the LA Times on it to hold you over until then.

And here’s AssMilk. Just because Earl kills it.

Odd Future In Boston

Odd Future was in Boston and caused a “near riot” at Tyler’s signing of his album. The police were dispersing the crowd and all this shit. I thought this video was hilarious because it’s just middle-aged white people stereotypically talking about OF and how crazy they are. It’s like kids today bitching about how shitty of a book The Grapes of Wrath is (For the record, it’s awful, sorry John Steinbeck).  The dude’s attempt to get an interview was pretty funny too.

Oh, yeah, they performed later that night at Paradise. As usual, they brought their energy, outrageous lyrics, and you guessed it, crowd surfing.

Odd Future Surprise Concert (Video)

As you’ve probably all heard, Tyler got arrested yesterday (promoting his album?) and Odd Future had a surprise concert at the Troubador in West Hollywood to celebrate the release of Goblin. Looks like there are a ton of dudes there, and they all seem to know all the lyrics, especially for an album that dropped that day. Hmm…Anyway, Goblin is still playing on my iTunes.

I’ve been awake for something like 26 hours straight with all this studying shit so I’m going to bed. Hopefully, I’ll be posting a lot more later tonight. Sleepyhead out.

Swaggin’ out to some Rebecca Black, too

A buddy of mine found this gem and showed it to me today.

Funniest thing I’ve seen all day. Especially the guy at the end.

Tyler, The Creator-Goblin Album

Do what makes you fucking happy, cuz at the end, whose there? You.

I’ve been waiting for this album to come out for over a year. I’ll admit, at the beginning I didn’t know what to think of this seemingly schizophrenic skater kid and his crazy lyrics. But he grew on me. It wasn’t so much the words as much as the passion and the ability to push boundaries that I started to like. Then, I just like everything about him. The charisma, the shows, the interviews, everything. So when I found out a few months ago that Tyler had signed a deal with XL to put out Goblin, I was worried that he would lose some of his creative control. He didn’t lose any.

The album finally dropped today. This is the first album I’ve bought off iTunes since Cudi’s second album if that tells you how much I despise music that costs money. But with all the hype and hope I gave it, it was worth it. I understand that this will be the most polarizing album of the year. Everyone is going to have an opinion and most people are either going to absolutely love it, or absolutely hate it. I don’t really see a medium anywhere. You guys know how much I like Odd Future so you can guess how I feel about the album.

Tyler, The Creator-Thurnis Haley Part III (Video)

Have you ever been to a golfing tournament? Or would you rather see your son sing in a choir?”

Once again, Odd Future brings us another Thurnis Haley video. And once again, it’s hilarious.

It’s funny, I play a lot of golf and Tyler is spot on about their always being that one guy that doesn’t give a fuck about anything else but golfing at every golf course. These are also normally the guys you don’t play with, as they are usually just pricks.
